Acid value
A measure of the residual acidity of a substance, e.g. a polyester. Measured in mg KOH/g needed to neutralise the acidity.
Addition Polymerisation
A polymerisation reaction where no by-products are produced. (cf condensation polymerisation).
AGS acids
An abbreviation for a mixture of adipic, glutaric and succinic acids, which is obtained from nylon waste.
Alicyclic
An aliphatic (substance) containing non-aromatic ring structures, of carbon atoms.
Aliphatic
An organic (substance) containing straight – or branched - chain arrangements of carbon atoms.
Aromatic
An organic (substance) usually containing one or more benzene ring structures. In some substances, typical "aromatic" chemical properties are also conferred by other ring structures.
